Rehoboth Chapel began to meet in June of 1998 in the home of Rev. Jay Fluck. The chapel's beginning was occasioned at the conclusion of a long "wrestling match" over the nature of the Bible. At that time the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC) had determined to License a pastoral candidate who proclaimed the first chapters of Genesis were allegory. Rev. Fluck and others left the OPC, and after being released by the OPC they continued to meet together and appealed to the Reformed Church in the United States(RCUS) to be recognized, received, and oversee by them as a congregation.
The group chose the name of Rehoboth to reflect the feelings as felt by Isaac before them in Genesis 26:22. In searching for room enough to grow both in grace and truth. The Hebrew Word "Rehoboth" means "room for us" thus Isaac said, "God has made room for us," so in God's grace Rehoboth Reformed Chapel was established.
In June of 1999 the Consistory of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Shafter California; formally took oversight of Rehoboth. After examination, Ebenezer received the congregation into membership and designated the congregation of Rehoboth as a "chapel" of the Ebenezer Congregation. Rev. Jay Fluck was called to the office of Missionary Pastor of Rehoboth Chapel and continues to serve as the Pastor today.
The designation of "chapel" is understood to mean Rehoboth is an infant congregation still dependent on its "mother" (Ebenezer), for nourishment and instruction as a "daughter", until becoming mature enough in the strength and grace of God to stand on her own.
In December of 2000 the congregation, having grown in Gods grace, moved to a store front on Beach Blvd. in La Habra California which we soon out grew. God has graciously continued to grow us, until at present we reside in a very nice office complex at 501 S Idaho Street Suite 210 La Habra, CA 90631-6047. At present the congregation continues to meet at this location. We look toward future growth in Worship as God's continued blessing increases the regular attendance and growing membership of our fellowship.
At present the congregation has three teaching elders, Elder Carl Esparza, Elder Clarence Gehring and Reverend Jay Fluck.
